A sustainable space to thrive

In fall, four faculty members were named to endowed chairs and professorships, recognizing their contributions to advancing Beloit through their teaching, leadership, and scholarship. Provost Eric Boynton announced the honors at the November Academic Senate meeting.

Women’s soccer put together a historic season that culminated with a trip to the NCAA Tournament last fall, a first for women’s soccer at Beloit.

The late Professor of Sociology Carla Davis made an outsized impact on her students. At a memorial service held to celebrate her life last October, friends announced that a tuition award is being established in her name for a student of color.

Beloit moved up five spots on the U.S. News & World Report national list of top liberal arts colleges in its “2022 Best College Rankings” and continued to receive top rankings in several foundational categories, including undergraduate teaching, first-year experience, and value.

Students painted Chinese water calligraphy on a sidewalk and let it dry in the sunshine, performed improvisational music, and strutted their stuff at an outdoor fashion show. It was all part of a fascinating course which challenged students to explore transitory artistic practices, then create impermanent art themselves.

Beloit’s swim team is enjoying an “All in the Family” moment — with three sets of siblings competing for the Buccaneers. After last year’s difficult season, the team is tight-knit and finds commonality in shared experiences.

Bill Green, Logan Museum of Anthropology director emeritus, joins a short list of Beloiters honored for career achievements in archaeology.

Students who traversed the Boundary Waters wilderness area in northern Minnesota last summer learned – among other things – how to think about equity in their surroundings, understand a mining controversy, and explore the nature of nature itself.

Members of the alumni community with outstanding achievements were honored in October when the Alumni Association presented the 2020 and 2021 Distinguished Service Citations (DSC) and Young Alumni Awards (YAA).
