Alumni Advice: Andrew Koure’19

Andrew Koure’19 discusses his career as an instrumentation technician with Geocomp.

Job:Instrumentation Technician 1 at Geocomp

Major:Environmental Geology Major

Typical job responsibilities:I am responsible for installing and maintaining data telemetry systems. All of the readings are fed into the iSiteCentral web GIS platform. I am responsible for ensuring that readings are making their way into the webserver and ensuring that the readings are of high quality. I am also helping the Geo-Technical group with a slope stability project focusing on coal ash landfills that are being decommissioned. For this project, I am using AutoCAD Civil 3D to create cross-sections and extract data as needed for the engineers.

Typical challenges of the work:Completing work quickly and efficiently, learning new skills, remaining available to clients.

Education level for an entry-level position:Bachelor’s Degree.

Advice for current Beloit College students:Be persistent, and treat a job search in a similar way that you would look for a graduate program. Try to find a manager who is willing to invest time in growing you as a professional, rather than trying to find the coolest job that you can.
