Concierge Internship Program

Pilot Overview

The Impact Beloit Concierge Internship Pilot provides high-achieving seniors (or juniors) paid internship opportunities within a Beloit area business to gain invaluable work experience and networking opportunities. Students are overseen byTim Leslie, the Executive Director of Impact Beloit, as well as at least one Beloit College alum.

Gjergj Ndoci'20 found his internship through the Engaging the World of Work Class, taught by Carol Wickersham and Jessica Fox-W... You must commit to 10 hours per week for the full academic year. The interns will make market rate pay ($18-$20/hr); the goal is for the position to begin by September 18, 2023, and run through May 3rd, subject to all school breaks (fall, winter, and spring breaks).

An internship placement with any of the companies participating in this program will be extremely valuable for your skill and career development. As a Concierge Intern, you will gain valuable, hands-on experience working on projects integral to the operations of the business and develop and hone your professional skills. You will develop professionally through on the job experience, as well through faculty/staff and alumni advising and peer-to-peer sharing. The internship will give you excellent experience as you pursue future career paths and navigate future jobs.

Requirements

Successful candidates for Concierge Internship positions must:

  • Be a senior or junior (priority will be given to seniors);
  • Demonstrate maturity and responsible, dependable behavior, and submit a reference from a faculty or staff member attesting to this(form will be provided after initial screening of your application);
  • Have completed a Beloit College course with a significant community-based learning component or have had an internship relevant to the role for which you are applying;
  • And have taken at least one of the following courses: leadership development, entrepreneurship, navigating your career, project management, or other skill-based course that provides you with job-ready skills for the internship — if the latter, please specify.

The top candidates who meet the requirements will be interviewed by the Executive Director and, potentially, another faculty or staff, and a representative from the company to which you are applying.

Interns will attend check-in sessions every other week with the Executive Director of Impact Beloit. On alternating weeks, interns will meet with their alumni mentor. At the check-in sessions, interns will share updates on their projects, challenges, and successes and receive feedback and guidance from faculty/staff, alumni, and peers. Check-ins will help interns reflect on what they’ve learned, learn from alumni and their peers’ experiences, and receive feedback that helps them perform better.

Course credit and compensation for the internship

The default is that interns will be compensated (at a competitive market rate) for the internship but do not receive course credit; however, it is possible that one of the internships will not be for pay. In that case, interns would receive a one-unit course credit for each term.
